Happy 2023! Start your rando season off with a 200k on New Year's Day.
Description: This course is as flat as it gets for an out and back from Moorpark to Santa Barbara Harbor and back to Moorpark. The route is intended to be a fun ride, a good warm up for the randonneuring season. Get your 2023 off to a great start!
The initial climb out of Moorpark will help warm the system up for the 8 mile gentle descent down Santa Rosa Road to Camarillo. The route crosses the Oxnard Plain to the coast and at Harbor Blvd. turns north to Ventura. You will then travel Route 1 or Old PCH and the new coastal bike path to Carpinteria. Carpinteria, a busy beach town only 12 miles from SB Harbor, is a great stop for coffee or late breakfast. The route then using surface streets, parallels the 101 Freeway to Summerland and over the Ortega Hill bike path to Montecito. Then navigate the roundabout to Santa Barbara’s majestic and popular Cabrillo Blvd, so keep your eyes alert to the road as it’s easy to be distracted. Sushi Go-Go and On the Alley are good places for bite to eat while looking over the Santa Barbara Harbor with your bike in view as well. The Harbor Market is steps away for those that want to grab and go for a quick turnaround.
Missed something on the way out? You get a chance to see all of it again on the way home, usually with a good tailwind.
This is a self- supported ride. Riders are responsible for obtaining their own food and water out on the course. There is no SAG vehicle.
