This is a 125km Populaire created for the Rouleur Award series.  The route is an out-and back between Pasadena and Rancho Cucamonga that parallels, or is actually on, historic Route 66.  Most of the riding is through pleasant San Gabriel Valley neighborhoods.  The finish is now at Hook Burgers so that we can enjoy burgers and beer with our fellow randos.

This ride is part of our Rouleur Award series.   To earn the Rouleur Award riders must do rides of 100km, 125km, 150km, 200k, plus a Dart Populaire in the same calendar year.  PCH Randos will have more Rouleur-targeted rides in the fall, but you might as well get started on your series now.   More about the Rouleur award.

This is an unsupported ride.  Riders are responsible for obtaining their own food and water on the course.  There are many parks and convenience stores along the way.  There is no SAG.

Sorry folks, we had to cancel this ride (again!).  Caltrans is banning bicycles on Hwy 33 while repairs go on.  See the PCH Randos Google Group for a complete post about this.  We'll try again next year.

Note:  You must register in advance for this ride- registration closes at noon on Thursday before the ride.  There is no late registration or day-of-event registration.  You must be a member of both PCH Randonneurs and RUSA in order to register.

This is a challenging ride that travels some beautiful, remote mountain roads.   From the start in Ventura riders will make a gentle warm-up climb to Ojai, and then the real fun begins.  The route travels north on Highway 33, through the Wheeler Gorge and the Sespe Wilderness Area.  At Pine Mountain Summit (mile 51), riders will have already climbed over 6000 feet.  Food and drinks will be provided here.  Riders will make the rapid descent down to the Lockwood Valley Road, then begin the "Heartbreak" climb up to Lake of the Woods. (This climb gets its name because it seems like you have reached the summit at mile 66, but there are actually two more bumps to climb until you reach the final summit at mile 80).  Riders then work their way to Lebec, Gorman, and Lake Hughes- a mostly downhill segment, but it may not seem like it because there are plenty of climbs along the way.  After visiting the little market at Lake Hughes, riders will descend San Francisquito to Valencia, then follow the Heritage Valley back to Ventura.

The total climbing for this ride is about 14,000 ft.  This is a great way to help build your fitness for your upcoming difficult rides in the summer.

In general, riders are responsible for obtaining their own food and water out on the course.  However, there will be a staffed control at Pine Mountain Summit, and maybe additional locations if the weather is hot.  There will be food provided at the finish.

Full lights and reflective gear are required.  Please see Article 10 of the RUSA Rules for Riders.

This is a very challenging and beautiful ride.  The first 50 miles are a sampler of some of the best climbing in the Santa Monica Mountains, capped off by a descent of Deer Creek to the coast (it's like falling off the edge of the earth). Then there is a long, flat ride to Oxnard and back so you can rest your legs, put some time in the bank, and get some lunch. One more big climb up Encinal and you've finished the ride.  [We had to do a significant re-route for 2024 to get around the Rock Store climb closure.  On the outbound leg, this will involve using Kanan Rd, which isn't pleasant, but it is only for 3 miles.  It has two tunnels- make sure you turn your lights on!  On the inbound leg, we will descend Westlake Blvd to get to Agoura Rd.]

Be sure to carry plenty of pocket food at the start! There is no food on course until mile 68, which will be about 6 hours of riding for most people. There are places to get water- which are marked on the cue sheet.

This is an unsupported ride- riders are responsible for obtaining their own food and water on the course.  There is no SAG.

[We had originally scheduled the Fillmore Double Bump route for this date, but because of the mudslide on Hwy 150 we have changed to the Views of Anacapa route.]

Views of Anacapa has been a popular brevet from years past.  It could be a little chilly at the start but you'll warm up quickly as you climb into the citrus orchards along Grimes and Balcom Canyon roads.  After the first control, a nice section of rollers on Foothill Road brings you into Ventura.  Around mile 37.7 it's time to get on the the Ventura River Bike Trail section for the next 6.2 miles. The next stop is on Santa Ana Road at the Corner Market.  Refuel and stock up here for the climb over Casitas Pass.  It's a steady climb, just be aware of the double summit!  With the majority of the climbing behind you, it's time to enjoy a nice descent into Carpenteria.  Lunch is an open control in Carpenteria.  The next part of the route should have views of blue skies, surf and sand!  A prevailing tailwind should be part of the fun as you down the coast toward Ventura and then toward Port Hueneme.  Another chance to refuel near Port Hueneme before you enjoy a relatively flat ride to the control near Las Posas Road.  You're on your way home now as you enjoy the gentle grade of Santa Rosa Road back to the start.

    Overnight Ride

Note: You must register in advance.  Registration closes at noon on Monday before the ride to allow for last minute logistics and communications. There is no day-of-event registration.  You must be a member of RUSA and PCH Randonneurs to register. There will be a 30 rider limit on this ride.

This is a point-to-point ride that PCH Randos last did in 2018. The ride begins in San Luis Obispo and travels south, mostly along the coast, to San Juan Capistrano. The planned overnight stop is at the Jones' house in Moorpark, where riders will be able to sleep and eat some hot food. A drop bag will be transported from the start to the overnight control, and then on to the finish.

The start is at the Motel 6 South in SLO. Riders are responsible for booking their own motel rooms and there are many hotel choices nearby. It is smart to do this well in advance- SLO hotels tend to be in high demand on spring weekends. The finish will be at the Best Western in San Juan Capistrano. There are train stations with riding distance of both the start and finish hotels.

Riders can take the Amtrak to San Luis Obispo on the Friday before the ride.  There are two Pacific Surfliner trains per day that allow you to wheel your bike in and store in a special bike area.  The bike is free, but you must add a bicycle reservation to your ticket and there is a limit to the number of bikes on one train.  The Coast Starlight also allows bikes, but for this train you wheel your bike to the baggage car and the conductor will load it into a bike area.  Another option to get to the start is to join with some friends and use a one-way rental car; AVIS does not charge an extra fee for one-way drop-off!

Full lights and reflective gear are required.  Please see Article 10 of the RUSA Rules for Riders.

This is a minimally supported ride.  In general, riders are responsible for finding their own food and water on course, although there may be roving support.  There will be food provided at the finish and the overnight.  There will be a limited amount of SAG, so riders should have a plan to find their own way back if they need to abandon.

For the over night control a variety of beds and air mattresses will be provided. Riders should plan to include a bed roll or sleeping bag with their small drop-bag. Drop bag and bed roll will be transported to Over night and final controls.

This is a nice 100k that includes one of the best cycling roads in Southern California, Glendora Mountain Road.  There is about 5,000 feet of total ascent, but the gentle, steady gradients and terrific views will take your mind off the hard work.

The ride begins in Pasadena, follows the usual surface streets to GMR, then climbs up to the high point (3300 ft) at the Caltrans Maintenance Shed.  From there you will descend down the backside of GMR to the East Fork Road and ride along the San Gabriel river.  There is a control at the Camp Williams Cafe (which may or may not be open), after which you will head over to Highway 39 to decend out of the mountains and head back to Pasadena.

There will be no SAG support for this ride.  Riders should carry enough food to get through the ride.  There are places to fill up water on the route.
