This is a nice 100k that includes one of the best cycling roads in Southern California, Glendora Mountain Road.  There is about 5,000 feet of total ascent, but the gentle, steady gradients and terrific views will take your mind off the hard work.

The ride begins in Pasadena, follows the usual surface streets to GMR, then climbs up to the high point (3300 ft) at the Caltrans Maintenance Shed.  From there you will descend down the backside of GMR to the East Fork Road and ride along the San Gabriel river.  There is a control at the Camp Williams Cafe (which may or may not be open), after which you will head over to Highway 39 to decend out of the mountains and head back to Pasadena.

There will be no SAG support for this ride.  Riders should carry enough food to get through the ride.  There are places to fill up water on the route.

The ride organizer will be riding with you.  Please make every effort to be on time for the start.

Join us for a night start 300k!  This is great practice for those of you headed to PBP who want to get a feel for starting in the evening and riding through the night.

This is a variation on the Pasadena/Upper Sart route, with the start shifted to Seal Beach and run in the clockwise direction.  From Seal Beach riders work their way up the San Gabriel River Trail (SGRT) to Pasadena.  Then riders work their way east through the foothill communities to San Bernadino.  The return to Orange County is along the Upper SART, the bike route in Chino, and surface streets in Anaheim, Tustin, and Irvine.  The final 25 km is north on PCH back to Seal Beach (riders may use the coastal bike paths if they prefer).

In the tradition of randonneuring, riders are expected to be self-sufficient.  Riders are responsible for obtaining their own food and water out on the course.  There is no SAG vehicle.  Food will be provided at the finish.

This is a night ride.  All riders are expected to have sufficient lighting and reflective gear to comply with RUSA rules.  (see Article 10 of the RUSA rules for riders)  There will be an inspection of lights and reflective gear at the start of the ride.

The route is a challenging loop around the northern half of the Sierra Pelona Mountains, with over 7000 ft of elevation gain, most of it in the first 48 miles. It travels up San Francisquito Canyon, along the San Andreas Fault past the southern half of the Neenach Volcano, across the northern slopes of the Sierra Pelona Mountains, and returns via the historic Old Ridge Route.
The Old Ridge Route has a lot of variation in the road surface, with sand, broken asphalt, rough asphalt, and gravel, as well as perfectly smooth asphalt (esp. near the bottom.) Any bike can get through, but wider tires at lower pressures will make it an easier and more comfortable ride.

This is a minimally supported ride. Riders are responsible for obtaining their own food and water on the course.  There is no SAG vehicle.  The mountains can be very warm in the summer, and are always dry and windy.  After Lake Hughes at about mile 28 there are no services or water for the next 44 miles. It is highly recommended that you carry extra water.

At intersection of Mt Wilson Red Box Rd and Angeles Crest Highway.  About 14 miles up Hwy 2 from La Canada.

Road Update:  Highway 2, the Angeles Crest Highway, is currently closed due to both snow and rockslides.  The Caltrans Distict 7 Facebook page predicts that repair work on the slides will continue through the summer, which means it is likely we will have to change this ride.  A decision will be made by July 15th and registered riders will be informed.  As an alternate route, we may use this route instead.

Note:  You must register in advance for this ride- registration closes at noon on Friday before the ride.  There is no late registration or day-of-event registration. You must be a member of both RUSA and PCH Randonneurs to register.  The ride is free, but you still must register by the deadline.

Join us for a moonlit summer ride in the San Gabriel Mountains.  This Populaire begins at Red Box (where the Mt Wilson Rd meets the Angeles Crest Highway) and climbs to Dawson Saddle, the highest point on the Angeles Crest Highway at 7900 ft.  The return to Red Box is much easier- mostly descent with only a few climbing sections.  This is a challenging ride because of all the climbing, but the gradients are very reasonable- nothing too steep.  And there are no stop signs or traffic lights to slow you down.

On July 29th the moon is close to being a full moon-  It should be high in the sky for most of our ride.  In July the night temperatures, even at elevation, won't be too cold.  Traffic will be light because most of the hikers and sports car drivers should have gone home already.

This is an unsupported ride- there is no SAG vehicle.  Water will be stashed somewhere along the Crest so you can fill up on the climb to Dawson.  Riders will need to carry enough food for the entire ride.

All participants are required to have working front and rear lights on their bicycles and meet the reflectivity guidelines as required by Article 10 of the RUSA Rules for Riders.  An inspection will be conducted to ensure compliance for your safety during the ride.

A coastal 300k perfect for hot summer days.  Riders start in Ventura, do an out-and-back to Malibu in the early morning, make a short loop on the Oxnard Plain to Somis, then ride up the coastal route to Goleta.

PCH Randonneurs is hosting back-to-back 300k's this weekend.  Riders can choose to register for either of the two brevets, or both of them.  This is a great opportunity for riders headed to PBP to get in some serious training miles before you head off to France.

This is a minimally supported ride.  Riders are expected to be self-sufficient and obtain their own food and water out on the course.  There will be food provided at the finish.  There is no SAG vehicle.

A coastal 300k perfect for hot summer weather.  The route is a long-handled version of our Big Dipper brevet.  It begins in Ventura, does a morning loop through Oxnard, Moorpark and Fillmore, returns to Ventura (so you can resupply at your car at about mile 80), then takes off up the coast to El Capitan State Beach.

PCH Randonneurs is hosting back-to-back 300k's this weekend.  Riders can choose to register for either of the two brevets, or both of them.  This is a great opportunity for riders headed to PBP to get in some serious training miles before you head off to France.

Join us for our PBP send-off ride!  We can wish bonne route to all the PCH Randonneurs heading off to PBP later in August.  August 2023 also marks the 25th Anniversary of RUSA- any rider doing a brevet in August will get a commerative icon in their "treasure chest" on the RUSA results page.  To celebrate both PBP and RUSA's anniversary, ice cream will be provided at the finish!

A flat, coastal out-and-back from Malibu to Carpinteria.  A good ride for a hot summer Sunday.

Do not park in the shopping center parking lot!  You can park on Malibu Rd behind (south of) the shopping center.
